Dallas Police Department....afternoon....

Katherine is sitting at a table across from her attorney, Cass Winthrop, in a conference room at the Dallas Police Department the day after her guilty verdict.  "Katherine, we're going to appeal your conviction,"  Cass tells her.  "I've already filed an appeal with the court.  If we can get you sent to a psychiatric hospital instead of to prison, chances are you'd be released within five years."

"Five years,"  Katherine says.  "That seems like an eternity."

"I know.  But you had to surely be prepared for this."

"Being prepared somehow doesn't........prepare you........for a murder conviction and a sentence of twenty years.  I'll be 79 in 20 years."

"But even if this sentence is carried out, you could be out in seven on parole,"  Cass says.

Just then, a knock comes at the door, and a deputy walks in.  "Excuse me, Mr. Winthrop, Ms. Wentworth has a visitor."

"A visitor?"  Katherine asks, surprised.

"Who is it?"  Cass asks.

"Bobby Ewing."

"No,"  says Cass.  "No way."

"I want to see him,"  Katherine says.  "I wanna see what he wants."

"You already know that he's come here to gloat."

"Still, I want to see him."

"Alright, fine,"  says Cass.  "Send Mr. Ewing in."

The deputy nods, then steps out of the room.  A few seconds later, Bobby walks in.  Cass stands from his seat and the two men look at each other.

"I'd like to see Katherine alone, if you don't ,mind,"  Bobby says in a rather stern tone.

"Well, I DO mind, but, I'll be right outside."  Cass looks at Katherine, then at Bobby, and leaves the room.

"Come here to gloat?"  Katherine asks.  "If so, then why didn't you bring that bean pole you're married to, and that slut Jenna Wade?"

Bobby smiles.  "Still full of venom, aren't you, Katherine?  No,I didn't come here to gloat.  I did, however, come here to see the look on your face, knowing you'll be spending the next 20 years behind bars."

"You're disappointed, aren't you?  That my sentence was so........short?"

"Well, I have to admit that if I had my say, you would've gotten life without the possibility of parole,"  Bobby says.  "But 20 years is definitely better than nothing."

"You really think you're going to get rid of me that easily, Bobby? Well, you're not.  You and your family have cost me everything. My son Brian is dead because of your family."

"Your son is dead because he was a criminal.  Like mother, like son.  Y'know, Katherine, I really thought that I would get a great deal of pleasure out of seeing you here like this, but I don't.  All I feel for you is sadness and pity.  All I can say is thank God your mother never lived to see the monster that you became.  That, in itself, would have killed Rebecca."

"You're really enjoying this, aren't you?  Tormenting me?  Well enjoy it while you can, Bobby, because I WILL be back, and when I do..........you and your family are going to pay for everything I've lost because of you."

Bobby smiles.  "Just as delusional and out of touch with reality as ever.  You're about to go to prison, Katherine, for the next 20 years.  And the only thing that I'm enjoying right now is the fact that I'll never have to see you again.  I hope that you spend the next 20 years thinking about all the things you've done.  About Naldo and Veronica, and all the other people you've hurt, including your own children.  And I hope that haunts you."  Bobby walks to the door and starts to leave.

"You WILL see me again, Bobby,"  Katherine says.  "You can count on that."

Bobby pauses a second and looks at her.  "Goodbye, Katherine," he says, then leaves.

"It's not goodbye, Bobby,"  Katherine says softly after he is gone.  "You'll never be rid of me.  Never."

Perry's Steakhouse and Grille....three months later....two weeks before Thanksgiving....

Jay Smithfield walks into Perry's early in the afternoon on a cold November day three months later.  He is greeted by the hostess, and led across the crowded restaurant to a table where Cass Winthrop is seated.  "Mr. Winthrop,"  Jay says.

"Ah, Mr. Smithfield, hello,"  Cass says, shaking hands with the younger attorney as Jay takes a seat across from him.

"What can I get you gentlemen to drink?"  The hostess asks.

"I'll have a glass of white wine,"  Cass replies.

"I'll have the same,"  says Jay.

"Coming right up, and your server will be with you shortly."

"Thank you,"  Jay says as the young woman walks away.  "Mr. Winthrop, I'm sorry I'm a few minutes late, but traffic was murder on the Central Expressway."

"Oh, no problem, I just got here myself.  I was very surprised to get your call asking for this meeting.  What is it that I can do for you?"

"Well, Mr. Winthrop......mind if I call you Cass?"

"No, not at all please do."

"Thank you, and you call me Jay.  Cass, the reason I asked you to lunch is because I have a proposition for you."

Cass smiles.  "Well, I'm intrigued."

"I was very impressed the way you handled the Katherine Wentworth case, and after doing some background research on you, I'd very much like to offer you a partnership in my firm, Smithfield and Bennett, if you'd be interested in relocating to Dallas."

"Relocating?"  Cass asks.  "You want me to become a partner in Smithfield and Bennett?"

"Yes,"  Jay replies.  "Our caseload is growing and with my father retired and my cousin Todd working in the D.A.'s office, most of the work falls on me.  My father does help out whenever he can, but he's recovering from cancer surgery, and it's hard for him.  And, I must say I'm very impressed with you."

"Well, thank you, Jay, I really appreciate that.  But, I'm not sure about relocating to Dallas.  Bay City, Illinois has been my home for a lot of years."

"I understand that.  I understand you have a life there, and friends, and family."

"Well, I do have friends there, but family........not anymore.  In fact, Jay, your offer does come at a perfect time for me. As you probably know I'm divorced.  My daughter lives in New York now, and my son has recently been offered a scholarship at the University of Texas."

"I know,"  Jay says.  "Which is another reason I'm offering you this position.  Not only will it help me out, but it'd also give you a chance to be near your son."

"Well, this is definitely something to think about,"  Cass says.

Meanwhile, Bobby and Ann are finishing up their lunch across the room as their waitress walks up to their table.  "Can I get you anything else, Mr. and Mrs. Ewing?" She asks.

"No, thanks, Amy, we're fine."

Amy smiles.  "Okay, well, here is your check, Mr. Ewing."  She places the ticket on the table.

"Alright,"  Bobby says.  He hands the young woman a one hundred dollar bill.  "Here you go, Amy, and you keep the change."

"Thank you very much, Mr. Ewing.  You have a great day, now."

"We will."

"Thank you, and you have a great one, too,"  Ann says as Amy walks away.  "Well, I am absolutely stuffed."

"So am I,"  says Bobby.

"Thank you for lunch."

"Oh, you are most welcome.  You ready to go?"

"All set,"  Ann says.

"I'll drive you home, and then I have to come back into town in about an hour and a half."

"Come back into town?  Bobby, why?  I was hopin' we could spend the afternoon together."

"Honey, I'm sorry.  I'll make it up to ya, I promise, but I have a meeting at the office with Christopher, Sue Ellen, and John Ross."

Ann sighs.  "Bobby, why didn't you mention this earlier?"

"Because I just found out.  Sue Ellen just texted me while we were having lunch, and we all need to discuss a few things, namely Westar and the fact that your nephew has grabbing very important deals right out from under us.  We just lost another deal to Westar this morning."

"Well, can't Sue Ellen, John Ross, and Christopher take care of it?"

"Honey, I'm the President of Ewing Oil.  I need to be there.  Come on, let's get out of here."

Ann nods, an annoyed and disappointed look on her face.  As she and Bobby get up from their seats, Bobby suddenly feels very dizzy.  He pauses a moment, then grabs onto the table.  Ann looks at him.  "Bobby, are you alright?"

"Yeah, honey, I'm fine.  Just had a little dizzy spell, that's all.  Come on."  As Bobby and Ann are about to leave, Shawn walks by them and stops.

"Well, Aunt Ann," Shawn says.  "Hello, Uncle Bobby.  That is, if you don't mind me still calling you that."

"Quite frankly, I DO mind,"  says. Bobby.

"Hello, Shawn," Ann says, coldly.  "Bobby, we'd better go."

"I guess you're still angry about those deals Westar beat Ewing Oil to, huh?" Shawn asks.

"You mean those deals you STOLE from us,"  Bobby says.  "I don't know how you did it, Smith.  But if I find out that you've planted a spy in my company, then I can promise you'll be one hell of a sorry young man."

"Threats, UNCLE Bobby?"

"Not a threat.......a promise.  You wanna start a war, then that's exactly what you're gonna get."

"Ewing Oil is no match for Westar."

"Your grandfather thought we were no match for him, either.  But the Ewings took him down, and we'll do the same thing to you.  Which should be easy since you're nowhere near as big a man as Jeremy Wendell was."

"Bobby, come on, let's just go," Ann says.

Bobby glares angrily at Shawn for a couple of seconds, then he and Ann brush past the young man.

"I'm gonna do what my grandfather was never able to do," Shawn says as Bobby and Ann walk past him.  "I'm gonna destroy Ewing Oil once and for all.

Bobby stops and turns around to face him.  "You can try at your own peril,"  Bobby says, then turns and leaves with Ann.  "I'm warning you, you little punk........come after my company and I will personally destroy you, Brad Barnes, and Westar, and I'll enjoy doing it."

"We'll see who's gonna be destroyed, old man,"  Shawn says.

"Bobby, come on,"  Ann says.  The two walk away, and Shawn smiles, enjoying the fact that he had gotten under Bobby's skin.

A moment later, Bobby and Ann walk out of the restaurant.  "Come on, honey, I'll take you home, and then I need to get to the office to talk to Sue Ellen, Christopher, and John Ross about how we're gonna deal with that nephew of yours."

"Bobby if you really need to get to the office, I can take a taxi back to Southfork,"  Ann says.

"No, that's okay.  I think the drive out to the ranch will help me cool off."

Southfork....later....

Lucas is riding his horse back to the stables at Southfork that afternoon while teenage ranch hand Ricky Hernandez is brushing one of the other horses.  Lucas rides up to him, then climbs down off his horse.  "Ricky, how's it goin'?"  Lucas asks.

"Just fine, Lucas.  Have a nice ride?"

"Oh, I sure did.  Just somethin' about gettin' out there on the ranch by myself, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing.  Really helps clear my mind."  Hearing a car in the distance, Lucas looks in the direction of the house and sees Bobby's car drive up.  "My Dad and Ann are back.  Ricky, take care of my horse, would you?"

"Of course,"  Ricky says.  He takes the horse by the reigns as he watches Lucas head off toward the main house.

Meanwhile....

Bobby's car comes to a stop in the parking area in rear of the mansion.  Bobby and Ann get out of the car and head to the house as Lucas comes up from the stables.  "Hey, guys,"  he says, but an angry Bobby either doesn't hear his son, or ignores him and storms into the house.  "What's wrong with Dad?"

Ann looks at her stepson and sighs.  "He's angry.  We had a little run in with my nephew Shawn after lunch,"  she replies.

Lucas shakes his head. then he and Ann follow Bobby into the house, catching up to him in the foyer as he is about to go upstairs.  "Dad,"  Lucas says, walking into the foyer with Ann.  "What's going on?"

"What's going on is Westar has been stealing deals right out from under Ewing Oil again.....IMPORTANT deals,"  replies an angry Bobby.  "And the only way I can figure they're doing it is by having a spy planted at Ewing Oil just like before."

"You really think you have a spy at the company again?"  Lucas asks.

"I don't see any other way Shawn Smith and Brad Barnes could be taking these deals away from us.  I'm going to meet with Sue Ellen, Christopher, and John Ross to discuss how we're gonna handle Westar, and how we're gonna find out if we do have a spy again.  And I'll tell ya one thing,if I find out that someone has been leaking information to Westar, I'm gonna make that person sorry they were ever born!"

"Bobby, calm down,"  Ann says.

"Ann,I CAN'T calm down.  You heard what Shawn said.  That damned nephew of yours is planning to come after Ewing Oil.  Well, I'm not gonna let that happen.  I stopped Jeremy Wendell and I'll stop his grandson, too."  As Bobby turns and starts up the stairs, he suddenly stops on the second step, a sharp, stabbing pain cutting through his chest and spreading down his left arm.

"Bobby,"  Ann says.

"Dad, what is it?"  Lucas asks.

Before Bobby is able to reply, the pain becomes worse, almost unbearable, and he is gripped by a tightness in his chest accompanying the pain.  He moans out, then suddenly falls backward.  Lucas springs into action and quickly grabs his father, the two men falling to the floor.  "BOBBY!"  Ann yells.

"Dad!  DAD!"  Lucas says frantically.

Bobby is breathing hard, and unable to speak.  Ann quickly kneels beside her husband as Lucas cradles his father.  "Bobby!  Bobby!!"  She calls to him in tears.  Bobby closes his eyes, obviously losing consciousness.

"ANN, CALL 911!!"  Lucas yells.  "AND HURRY!!"

Ann immediately reaches into her purse and brings out her cell phone.  She dials 911, and almost instantly, a dispatcher answers the

call.  "I need an ambulance sent to Southfork Ranch,"  Ann frantically says, crying.  "It's my husband.  I don't know, he's collapsed.  Please.......HURRY!"

A short time later....

An ambulance speeds away from Southfork a short time later.  As the ambulance turns onto Braddock Road en route to the hospital, Courtney's car meets the ambulance almost in front of the Southfork gate as she is bringing Michael and Jacob home from school.  Worried and wondering what's happened, Courtney turns through the Southfork front gate and speeds up to the house.  As she brings her car to a stop in the parking area, Lucas is rushing to his own car while Heather stands on the patio.  Courtney and the boys get out of her car.  "Lucas, what's happening?"  Courtney asks. "Why was that ambulance here?"

"It's my Dad,"  Lucas replies.  "He's had some sort of an attack or something. The paramedics think it's a heart attack.  I have to get to the hospital!"  Lucas quickly gets into his car and speeds away.

"Mom, is Grandpa gonna be okay?"  Michael asks his mother as Heather walks out to meet them.

"Sweety, I don't know,"  replies Heather.  "We just need to pray."

"I have to call Christopher,"  Courtney says.

"Yes, call Christopher, and then maybe you and I should go to the hospital,"  Heather says.  "I didn't go with Lucas because I was waitin' for you to get home with the boys."

Courtney nods, then takes her cell phone out.

Meanwhile....Ewing Oil....

Christopher, Sue Ellen, and John Ross are sitting in the conference room at Ewing Oil.  John Ross anxiously looks at his watch, then gets up and begins pacing.  "Christopher, where the hell is Uncle Bobby?"  He asks.  "He knew this meeting was supposed to be at 3:30."

"John Ross, I don't know.  But he'll be here."

"Maybe you should call him again,"  Sue Ellen suggests.

Christopher nods, then picks his cell phone up from the table.  Dialing his father's number, he waits for an answer.  After several rings, Bobby's voicemail answers.  "Just goes to voicemail,"  Christopher says.

"Oh, that's just great,"  says an irritated John Ross.  "I think we should start without him."

"My Dad is president of this company,"  says Christopher says.  "He's the one who called this meeting."

"And I have been acting president for the past few months while Uncle Bobby was busy with other things, obviously things that were more important to him than Ewing Oil."

"John Ross, don't start with me, I'm warning you,"  Christopher says, standing to his feet.

"You're warnin' me, and what the hell are you gonna do?"

"Stop it, both of you!"  Sue Ellen says.  "This isn't getting us anywhere."

"I'm starting to get worried,"  says Christopher.  "My Dad should've been here twenty minutes ago."

"So am I,"  Sue Ellen says.  ''It's not like Bobby to miss an important meeting."

"I'm gonna call Ann,"  Christopher says.  "I know  they were supposed to have lunch together today."  He again picks his phone up, but before he can dial Ann's number,

the cell phone rings.  He looks at the screen.  "It's Courtney,"  he says, then answers the call.  "Courtney, honey, what's going on?  It's not a good time."  Christopher listens for a moment as Courtney tells him about Bobby being taken to the hospital.  "What? Oh my God, what happened? Yeah, I'm on my way.  I'll meet you at the hospital.  I'll be there as fast as I can."  Christopher ends the call and puts his phone down.

"The hospital?"  John Ross asks.  "What the hell's goin' on?"

"Christopher, what is it?"  Sue Ellen asks.  "Is it Jacob?"

"No.  It's my Dad.  He's........he's had something they think might be a heart attack.  He's on the way to the hospital now.  I have to go."

"I'm coming with you,"  Sue Ellen says.

"I'm comin', too,"  John Ross says, the three Ewings quickly rushing out of the room.

Braddock Medical Center....

Ann and Lucas are frantically pacing in the waiting room at Braddock Medical Center when Courtney, Heather, and Krystina walk in twenty minutes later.  "Ann,"  Courtney says.  "Any word yet?"

"No.  No, they're in with him now."

"Ann, I came home and Courtney and Heather told me what happened,"  says Krystina.  "Is there anything I can get for you?"

"Thank you, Krystina, but no.  All I want is for that doctor to come out and tell me that Bobby's alright."

Heather walks over to Lucas and gently rubs his arm.  "Lucas, are you okay?"  She asks.

"No, honey, I'm not,"  Lucas replies.  "I'm scared out of my wits.  If you could've seen him when he collapsed......"

"Hey, now,"  Heather says.  "He's gonna be okay.  He has to."

"You're right, he has to,"  Lucas says.  Heather puts her arms around him.

A short time later....

Ann, Lucas, Heather, Courtney, and Krystina are still waiting anxiously for word of Bobby's condition when Christopher, John Ross, and Sue Ellen rush into the waiting room a little more than a half hour later.  "Ann,"  Christopher says, walking int the room.

"Christopher, I'm glad you're here."

"What happened?  What's his condition?"

"We don't know yet.  The doctor hasn't let us know anything."

"Ann, can I get you anything?"  Sue Ellen asks.

"No, thank you, Sue Ellen."

"Who's with the boys?"  Christopher asks.

"Maria, and Alex was on his way home when Heather, Krystina, and I headed to the hospital,"  Courtney replies.

A male doctor of about 60 walks into the room.  "Dr. Baxter,"  Ann says, quickly standing to walk over to him.  "How is he?"

"Is my Dad gonna be okay?"  Christopher asks.

"Ann.......Bobby's had a heart attack,"  Dr. Baxter replies.

"A heart attack?"  Ann asks.

"Yes."

"Oh my God,"  Lucas says.

"How bad is it?"  Ann asks.

"It's severe,"  the doctor replies.  "Now, unfortunately, we aren't able to provide Bobby with the best care here at Braddock, so, we're gonna need to transfer him to Texas Health Presbyterian in Dallas.  They have the best facilities there, and one of the best cardiology departments in the state.  We're prepping him for transport now."

"Doctor, how is this even possible?"  Christopher asks.  "My father was in excellent health. He just had a physical a couple months ago."

"Christopher, you have to realize that your father isn't a young man anymore.  Bobby is 70-years-old, and if I know him like I think I do, he's probably still driving himself as hard as he ever has.  If I recall from Bobby's medical history, there is a history of heart problems in his family, isn't there?"

"Yes,"  Sue Ellen replies.  "Bobby's father, Jock, had a heart attack when he was about the same age Bobby is now."

"Heart disease is often passed down from one generation to another," Dr. Baxter says.  "Once Bobby is at Texash Health Presbyterian, they'll run some tests, and determine how to proceed with treatment."

"Can I see him?"

"Yes.  He's awake but still in some discomfort.  If you'd like, I can also arrange for you to ride in the ambulance with Bobby to Dallas."

"Yes, thank you,"  Ann says.

"Come with me.  I'll take you to Bobby, and we should be ready to transport him in just a few minutes."

"Ann, we'll follow behind,"  says Christopher.

Ann nods.  "Alright,"  she says as she follows the doctor out of the waiting room.

Christopher, Lucas, and the others exchange worried looks between them.

Later....

An ambulance speeds toward Dallas half an hour later, carrying Bobby to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, a worried Ann riding in the ambulance with her husband.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital....evening....

Bobby is sleeping peacefully in his room at Texas Health Presbyterian later that evening when Ann walks in.  She looks at him for a moment, then walks over to his bedside.  Ann takes a seat, bows her head, and begins to pray silently.  After almost a full minute has passed, Bobby begins to wake up.  He opens his eyes and looks at his wife.  "Annie," he says in a weak voice.

Ann looks at him, tears in her eyes.  "Oh, Bobby,"  she says.  "How do you feel?"

"Weak.......and thirsty."

"I'll get you some water,"  Ann says.  She pours him a glass of water, then gently raises his head, supporting him with her right hand as he takes a few sips.  "Better?"

"Yeah,"  Bobby replies, then lays his head back on the pillow.

"You know, you almost scared me to death,"  Ann says.

"I'm sorry,"  Bobby says.  "There for a while, I was sure I was a goner."

Ann takes him by the hand.  "I don't know what I would do if I ever lost you."

"Hey, now, you're not gonna lose me.  I'm gonna be fine."

"You're damned right, you are,"  Ann says.  "Because I won't have it any other way."

"I love you, Annie."

"And I love you, my  darling,"  Ann says, gently kissing his forehead.

The Waiting Room....

Christopher is pouring himself a cup of coffee in the waiting room when Lucas walks up to him.  "Coffee?"  Christopher asks.

"Yeah, thanks."

Christopher pours his brother a cup and hands it to him.  "Lucas, you were with Dad when he had the heart attack?"

"Yeah, Ann and I both were."

"Well, what happened?"  Christopher asks.  "What brought this on?"

Lucas sighs.  "Dad was upset.  No, actually, he was angry. Very angry."

"About what?"

"Apparently, he and Ann had had some sort of confrontation with Ann's nephew, Shawn Smith, after they had lunch.  Dad was ranting about how Westar had stolen several important deals from Ewing Oil, and that he thinks there's a spy in the company again giving away secrets to Westar.  I guess he and Shawn got into an argument about it or something."

"I hear you right?"  John Ross asks, walking over to his two cousins.  "Did you just say Uncle Bobby had his heart attack after an argument with Shawn Smith?"

"Yes, John Ross, that's what I said," Lucas replies.

"That son of a bitch.  Not only has he been stealin' deals from us, but now he's caused Uncle Bobby to have a heart attack. That little punk's gonna pay for this."

As Christopher is about to say something, Ann walks into the room.  Christopher and Lucas walks over to their stepmother.  "How is he?"

"Awake.  He's real weak, but he wants to see the two of you."

The two brothers exchange looks, then, as they are about to leave the waiting room, Bobby's doctor walks in.  Christopher, Lucas, Ann, Heather, Courtney, Sue Ellen, and John Ross gather around the doctor.

"We've gotten the results of all of Mr. Ewing's tests back,"  the doctor says.  "Mr. Ewing has blockages in three major coronary arteries.  The main coronary artery is 90% blocked.  In many cases, these blockages can be treated with angioplasty, but unfortunately, in Mr. Ewing's case, the blockages are too severe."

"So what does this mean?"  Ann asks.

"Mrs. Ewing, your husband is going to have to have bypass surgery,"  the doctor replies.  "I'd like to schedule the surgery for first thing in the morning."

"Bypass surgery?"  Lucas asks.

"Will he be alright?"  Christopher asks.

"I won't lie to you.  The surgery is very serious, but, Mr. Ewing has a lot going for him.  He's strong, and otherwise in very good health.  Provided there are no complications, he should make a full recovery and be able to lead a normal life after the surgery.  However, he will have to make some changes to his lifestyle."

"What sort of changes?"  Ann asks.

"His diet, for starters.  He'll have to reduce his salt intake drastically, and be on a heart healthy diet for the rest of his life.  He'll also have to cut back on any strenuous activities, get more rest, and avoid stress as much as possible."

"So, you're saying that my husband is gonna be alright?"  Ann asks.

"Mrs. Ewing, medical science has come a long way in recent years.  Many people come through bypass surgery with flying colors and even leave the hospital within 3 days after surgery.  As I said, your husband is a strong man for his age."

"Doctor, do whatever you have to do,"  Ann says.  "Just.........just make my husband better."

The doctor nods.  "I'm going to go now and talk to Mr. Ewing about his condition, and the surgery.  Mrs. Ewing, I'd like very much for you to come with me.  And then, the rest of you may go in and see him."

"Thank you,"  Christopher says.  Ann leaves the room with the doctor.

"Heart bypass surgery,"  Lucas says.  "My God."

"I can't believe this is happening,"  says Christopher.

"Now listen to me,"  Sue Ellen says, placing her hand on Christopher's shoulder.  "Your father is going to be fine.  Your grandfather Jock had this same type of surgery and he made a full recovery.  And that was over 40 years ago. Medical science has come a long way since then."

"Sue Ellen's right,"  Heather says.  "We just have to pray and have faith that Bobby's going to be alright."

Lucas and Heather embrace, as do Christopher and Courtney.

The Krebbs Ranch....

Ray and Donna are in their kitchen that night, Donna washing dishes while Ray dries.  "Here, be real careful with that one,"  Donna says, handing Ray a small bowl.

"Your Mama's gravy bowl,"  Ray says, taking the bowl to dry it.

"Yep.  One of the only things I still have that belonged to my mother.  That bowl has been handed down in my family.  It originally belonged to my grandmother, so it's very old."

Ray smiles.  "Well, then I'll just handle it with extra care, then."

"Good, because I intend to give it to Margaret one day.  I really appreciate your help with the dishes tonight."

"No problem at all.  It's nice to spend some time with you alone.  Y'know, I'm kinda that dishwasher broke down.  It's sorta nice doin' this."

"It is, but I do hope you have the dishwasher fixed soon."

"I'll get on it tomorrow,"  Ray says as the phone rings.  "Hmm, wonder who that is."  Ray walks over to the phone on the counter and picks it up.  "Hello,"  he says.  "Christopher, hey.  What can I do for ya?"  Ray listens quietly for a moment while Christopher speaks on the other end of the line.  A look of worry comes over Ray's face.  "Yeah.  I'm sure sorry to hear that.  If there's anything at all we can do, just let us know.  Thanks for callin', Christopher.  Night."  Ray puts the phone down.

"Ray, what's wrong?"  Donna asks.

"It's Bobby,"  Ray says.  "He's in the hospital.  He's had a heart attack."

"A heart attack?  Dear God.  How bad?"

"Sounds pretty bad.  He's scheduled to have a bypass operation early tomorrow mornin'."

Donna puts down her dish rag, then walks over to Ray and embraces him.

Southfork....

Christopher and Courtney are getting ready for bed later that night in total silence, neither of them having said a word for several minutes.  Christopher takes a seat on the bed and lowers his head.  Courtney walks over and puts her hand on his shoulder.  "You wanna talk about it?"  She asks.

"Talk about what?"

"About how scared you are right now."

"You're right, I AM scared," Christopher says.  "My Dad, he's..... Courtney, I can't lose him.  Not now."

"Christopher, you're NOT going to lose him.  Bobby is strong, and he'll recover from this.  We have to believe that.  We have to have faith."

"I know, and I'm trying.  I can't imagine my life without my father in it.  Y'know, I keep thinking about when I was a kid, the first time I told my parents that I knew that I was adopted.  It was right after Lucas was born......"

"I'll never forget that morning as long as I live,"  Christopher says.  "It was right after that my mother had her accident, and everything changed.  From then on, it was just Dad and me."

"And Bobby sure did a fantastic job in raising you all on his own,"  says Courtney.

"He sure did.  It wasn't always easy.  I didn't always make it easy for him.  But he never complained."

"It's getting late.  We'd better try and get some sleep.  Tomorrow's gonna be a long day."

"You're right,"  Christopher says.  "Let's get some sleep, or try to, anyway."

Courtney kisses him, then the couple gets into bed.  Christopher switches off the light on his side of the bed, and kisses Courtney again.  As Courtney turns over on her side to go to sleep, Christopher lays on his back, his eyes wide open as he stares up at the ceiling.  Christopher realizes he will get very little sleep on this night.

Southfork....early the next morning....

Michael is walking alone by the stables at Southfork just after daybreak early the next morning, a sad look on his face.  It is a crisp, cold November morning, and Michael is walking to do some thinking, as he is deeply worried about his grandfather.  Meanwhile, Ricky Hernandez is starting his work day by loading some bales of hay onto the back of a truck in front of the stable.  Ricky notices Michael and watches the boy for several seconds as Michael walks toward him.  "Hi, Ricky,"  Michael says.

"Good morning, Michael.  You are out very early on a very cold morning."

Michael lets out a sigh, his breath visible in the cold morning air.  "Yeah, I needed to take a walk."

"You have something on your mind,"  Ricky says.

Michael nods.

"Why don't you tell me what is bothering you."

"My grandfather is the hospital,"  replies Michael.

"Mr. Ewing?  Oh, I am sorry.  What happened?"

"He had a heart attack.  He's having surgery this morning."

"I can see that you're very worried about him."

"Yeah, I am.  I'm scared he's gonna........"  Michael suddenly stops talking and lowers his head.

"You are afraid that your grandfather will die,"  Ricky says.

Michael nods.

"That's understandable.  It is never easy to lose someone we love.  It's like, when we lose a person we love....... that we are close to, a part of us dies with them.  A part of our soul dies,"  Ricky says, a lot of sadness in his voice.

"You've lost somebody,"  Michael says.

"Yes.  My father."

"I'm sorry.  How old were you?"

"I was very young."

"How'd you get over it?"  Michael asks.

"I never did,"  Ricky replies.  "It still hurts.  I still think about him all the time.  So I understand how you're feeling.  But, even when we lose someone we love, they're still with us.  They live on in our hearts.  However, your grandfather is still alive, and it will do no good to believe the worst.  You have to believe that he will survive and that he will be okay."

"I really am trying. It's just hard."

"I know.  But you just have to believe that everything will be alright."

"Hey,"  Gavin Murray says as he walks up to them.  "Michael, what are you doin' down here this time of the morning?"

"I just needed to take a walk."

"I heard about your grandfather,"  Gavin says.  "How's he doin'?"

"He's having surgery this morning."

"I'm sorry to hear that.  But, you know, Michael, your grandfather is about the strongest man I know.  He's tough.  He'll be okay.  You just stay strong.  And if you need anybody to talk to, I'm always here for you, and for Jacob."

"Thanks, Gavin,"  Michael says.  "Thanks, Ricky.  I guess I'd better be heading back before my Mom and Dad start looking for me."

"I'll say an extra prayer for your grandfather,"  says Gavin.  "We both will."

Michael nods.  "Thanks,"  the boy says, then turns and begins walking back toward the house.

"Poor kid,"  Gavin says as he and Ricky watch Michael walk away.  "I really feel bad for that family.  They've had a real hard year, with Jacob's heart transplant, and now Bobby's heart attack. I sure hope things start lookin' up for them.  Well, come on. Let's get this hay loaded."

Ricky nods, then continues to watch Michael walk back to the house in the faint light of the early morning.  Gavin's words about hoping things start looking up for the Ewings echoes through his head.  "You hope things start looking up for the Ewings?"  He asks to himself in a low voice, almost a whisper.  "Not if I can help it."

"What'd you say, Ricky?"  Gavin asks, standing by the truck, several feet away from Ricky.

"Umm, I just said that I hope things start looking up for the Ewings, also,"  Ricky replies, caught off guard.  He walks over and begins to help Gavin load the hay onto the truck.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital....later....

A short time later, after Bobby has already been taken down to the operating room, Ann, Christopher, Courtney, Lucas, Heather, John Ross, Krystina, Alex, Sue Ellen, Catlin, Ray, Donna, Conner, Dylan, Lucy, Justin, and Pamela are all gathered in the waiting room down the hall from the operating room at the hospital when Mitch and another doctor walk in.  The family immediately gathers around the two doctors.  "Everyone, this is Dr. John Edwards,"  Mitch says.  "He's the best heart surgeon we have on staff here, and about the best in the state.  He'll be performing Bobby's surgery."

"Good morning,"  Dr. Edwards says.  "I want to just give you a rundown of what we're gonna be doing this morning with this procedure.  Bobby has three arteries leading to his heart that are partially or nearly totally blocked, impeding blood flow to the heart.  Coronary bypass surgery redirects blood around a section of a blocked or partially blocked artery in the heart to improve blood flow to the heart muscle. The procedure involves taking a healthy blood vessel from the leg, arm or chest and connecting it beyond the blocked arteries in the heart.  In other words, we bypass the blocked arteries and redirect the blood flow through the healthy vein."

"What about complications?"  Lucas asks.

"The risk of complications is relatively low, but, because coronary bypass surgery is open heart surgery, complications can arise, and those complications can include bleeding, infection at the incision site or within the chest cavity itself, low risk of stroke, possible memory problems, and a blood clot."

"Oh my God,"  Ann says, burying her face in her hands.

"I'm sorry I asked,"  Lucas says.

"Mitch, tell us the truth.  Just how LOW is the risk of these complications?"  Lucy asks.

"Complications are higher if the patient has other health issues such as emphysema, kidney disease, or diabetes, but in Bobby's case, none of those conditions are present,"  Mitch replies.  "Aside from these blockages, Bobby is in very good health, so any risk of complications are extremely low."

"Believe me, I've performed thousands of bypass surgeries in my ten years as a cardiac surgeon, and I've only seen complications in less than 10% of patients, Dr. Edwards says.  Now, I have to go and prep for surgery.  Mr. Ewing will be in surgery for several hours, so, if you're all planning on staying, I suggest you get comfortable and try and relax.  I'll let you know as soon as the surgery is over."  Dr. Edwards smiles at the group, then turns and walks out.

As Ann begins to cry, Christopher embraces his stepmother.

"Ann, Bobby's going to be fine,"  Mitch says.  "Dr. Edwards is the finest cardiac surgeon I know."

"Thank you, Mitch,"  Ann says.

"I'll check in as often as I can,"  Mitch says.

"I'll walk you out,"  Lucy says, leaving the waiting room with Mitch.

"I'm so afraid,"  Ann says in tears.

"Ann, you heard Mitch,"  says Ray.  "Bobby's gonna be just fine."

"Sure, he is,"  Donna says.  "Bobby is the strongest man I know, aside from Ray."

Lucas sighs.  "Well, I can't just sit here.  I'm goin' for a walk."

"I'll come with you,"  Heather says.

"No.  Honey, I'm sorry, but I just need to be by myself for a while,"  Lucas says, then walks out of the room, leaving Heather worried about her husband.

Later....

Ann is sitting alone on a sofa in the waiting room when Sue Ellen walks over to her carrying two cups of coffee.  She takes a seat beside Ann and hands her a cup.  "I thought you could use this,"  she says.

"You're right, I could.  Thank you."

"You're welcome.  Would you like for me to go down and get your something to eat from the cafeteria?"

"No, thanks.  I don't think I could eat anything right now."

"Ann, you need to keep your strength up,"  Sue Ellen says.

"I know, but, right now I'm too nervous to eat.  I probably wouldn't even be able to keep it down.  I've just been sittin' here thinkin'.  I'll never forget my first real date with Bobby.  That was........shoot, almost 17 years ago now.

Bobby took me to the old Oil Baron's Club one night.  I felt so out of place there.  It was such a fancy place, and everyone was dressed so elegantly.  I felt so plain.  I really wasn't use to that kind of life, or bein' in a place like that.  Even when I was married to Harris, he never took me out to dinner unless it was some business dinner where he wanted to put me on display like some trophy.  So, one night, when Harris was away on business, I decided that I was gonna get all dressed up and go out on the town.  And guess where I ended up........the Oil Baron's Club.  That was the night I met Cliff Barnes there.  And I ended up givin' in to my loneliness and goin' home with him."

"That was the night that........"

"The night Emma was conceived,"  Ann says.  "Well, after that night, I never went back to the Oil Baron's Club until the night Bobby took me there on our first date, years later.  He could see that I was uncomfortable, so, for our next date, he took me to Billy Bob's, which was much more my element."

"That's one of the things I've always loved about Bobby,"  Sue Ellen says.  "His ability to fit in just about anywhere.  I always envied that about him."

"Sue Ellen, I'm so frightened,"  Ann says.  "If anything happens to Bobby, I........"

"Ann, don't.  Don't even think like that.  You have to have faith that Bobby is going to come out of this stronger than ever, the way he's always done."

Ann looks at Sue Ellen and manages a slight smile through her tears, then takes a sip of her coffee.

Meanwhile, Christopher is standing in the hallway, just outside the waiting room, talking on his cell phone.  "Yeah, Uncle Gary,"  Christopher says.  "Dad's been in surgery now for a little over an hour and a half.  Well, the doctor was very optimistic that he's gonna make a full recovery.  Yeah, I know you wish you could be here, Uncle Gary.  So do I, but, I understand.  This all happened really fast, and nobody's had much time to do anything.  Well, look, I'll let you know as soon as we hear something.  Okay.  I'll talk to you soon, and give my love to Aunt Val.  Okay.  Bye, Uncle Gary."  Christopher ends the call and puts his phone away just as Ray comes out of the waiting room.

"What'd Gary have to say?"  Ray asks.

"Just that he wishes he could be here.  I told him I'd let him know as soon as we hear something."

"You want some coffee or anything?  I'm just goin' down to get some."

"No, thanks, Uncle Ray,"  Christopher replies, then walks back into the waiting room.  He takes a seat on a sofa next to Courtney.

"Are you okay?"  Courtney asks.

"Yeah, just......worried."

"How are Gary and Val?"

Christopher lowers his head and sighs.  "They're fine.  I should've called Uncle Gary before now.  He should be here. I just.......I just didn't think about it with everything else going on."

"I know, of course you didn't,"  Courtney says.  "Everyone had Bobby on their minds."

"Yeah, you're right about that,"  Christopher says as Lucas walks over.

"How do you think it's going in there?"  Lucas asks.

"I'm sure it's goin' fine,"  replies Christopher.  "If not, we would've heard something."

Courtney looks at Christopher, then at Lucas.  "Well, I think I'm gonna go and sit with Heather for a while.  Let you two talk."  She kisses Christopher, then gets up and walks away.

Lucas takes a seat beside his brother.  "I sure envy you,"  he says.

"You envy ME?  Why?"

"Because you've had Dad in your life almost from day one,"  Lucas replies.  "You've had the benefit of his wisdom, his love, and of knowing that he was your father growing up.  I've only had that for the last five years."

"I'm sorry, Lucas.  I really wish that things had been different."

"So do I.  But I guess there's no use wishing for something that'll never be.  Don't get me wrong.  Ray was a wonderful father to me.  But ever since I found out that Bobby was my real father, I've wondered what it was like to have grown up with him as a father."

"I think what I remember most about my childhood is Dad's wisdom,"  says Christopher.  "Of course Dad wasn't perfect, but he's always been the wisest man I've ever known.  I suppose that's a trait he inherited from Grandma because she was just about the wisest woman I ever knew.  But no matter where he got that wisdom from, Dad always seemed to know the right thing to say."  Christopher lets out a sigh, as his mind travels back in time to his childhood.....

Lucas puts his hand on Christopher's shoulder in an effort to comfort his older brother.

Across the room, Lucy is having her own memories of Bobby and his wisdom....

Lucy wipes a tear from her cheek, then she is immediately drawn into another memory....

Returning to the present, Lucy smiles as she thinks about the memory she has just revisited in her mind.

Meanwhile, Courtney walks over to Heather, who is standing by the window looking out.  "You want some coffee?"  Courtney asks.

"No, thank you,"  Heather replies as she looks over at Lucas and Christopher sitting on the sofa across the room.  "Y'know, Courtney, as worried as I am about Bobby, I'm also real worried about Lucas.  God, forbid, if somethin' does happen to Bobby.........it's gonna just about kill Lucas.  He loves his father so much."

"I know.  Same with Christopher."

"As much as Christopher loves Bobby, it's different for him,"  Heather says.  "Christopher has had Bobby in his life from the time he was just a little baby.  Lucas hasn't had that kind of relationship with his father.  He already feels cheated because he just found out he's Bobby's son a few years ago.  If somethin' happens to Bobby now, I... .......I just don't know how he would handle that."

"I don't even wanna think about that,"  Courtney says.

"Well, neither do I, but, I just can't help it,"  Heather says, a worried look on her face.

Jenna walks into the waiting room.  Lucas stands and greets his mother at the door.  "Mom, I'm glad you're here,"  Lucas says, hugging Jenna.

Christopher walks over and joins them.  "Hi, Jenna," he says.

"Hello, Christopher.  Has there been any word on your father yet?"

No, not yet," replies Lucas.

"Bobby's going to come out of this just fine.  I know he will,"  Jenna says.  "Your father's the strongest man I've ever known."  Jenna looks across the room and sees Ann.  For a moment, the two women gaze at each other, both feeling uncomfortable in the presence of the other, but both here to lend support to the man they love.  After a while, Ann turns her back to Jenna, walks to the window, and looks out.

Meanwhile....

Dr. Edwards and his team continue to work on Bobby through the lunch hour, as the surgery enters its 4th hour.  "Clamp,"  Dr. Edwards says to his assisting nurse.  "Suction.

As the surgeons work to perform the bypass operation, Bobby, although in a deep sleep under anesthesia, begins to dream, his subconscious revisiting parts of his past.....

"Suction," Dr. Edwards says as Bobby's surgery continues.  "Okay, we're looking good here.  Let's finish up."

Southfork....afternoon....

Meanwhile, at Southfork, Alex, Michael, and Jacob are playing a game of basketball, trying to keep themselves occupied and keep their minds off Bobby's surgery.  As the boys play, Krystina comes out of the house and heads

to her car.

"Okay, guys, I'm heading back to the hospital now,"  Krystina says to them.  "Alex, your brother and sister have been fed, and they're taking their naps now.  Maria's gonna keep a check on them.  If you need me for anything, call me.  I'm not sure what time your father and I will be home."

"Okay, we'll be fine,"  Alex says.

"I wish we could come to the hospital with you, Aunt Krystina,"  Jacob says.

"I know, sweety.  Maybe you guys can visit Bobby in the hospital in a couple days, when he's out of ICU.  I have to run.  I'll see you boys later."

"Bye,"  Alex says as his stepmother gets into her car.  The three watch as Krystina drives away.

"I sure am glad our parents didn't make us go to school today,"  Jacob says, his voice cracking.  "I don't think I could've concentrated anyway."

"Me neither,"  Michael says with a sigh.

"Well, you guys wanna play another game?"  Alex asks.  "I won one game, and Jacob won the second one.  Michael, think you can have any luck with a third game?"

"I don't wanna play anymore basketball,"  says Michael.

"Well, what do you wanna do?" Alex asks.

"I dunno.  Just tired of basketball."

"Alex, how about you and me play?"  Jacob asks.

"Sure."

"Michael, give us the ball,"  Jacob says.

"No,"  says Michael.

"Dude, we wanna play."

"I don't care, it's MY ball."

"What's your problem?  Mad because Alex and I beat you in two games?"

"Just shut up, Jacob,"  Michael says.  He turns and begins walking toward the house.

"Just let us use the ball!"  Jacob says.

"Go get your own ball,"  Michael says as he continues to walk toward the house.

"Cry baby!"  Jacob says.

Angered at being called a cray baby, Michael stops, turns around, and throws the ball at Jacob as hard as he can, hitting Jacob in the shoulder with it.

"Hey, you JERK!"  Jacob yells.  He charges at Michael and tackles him, the two boys falling to the ground fighting.

"Hey, hey, HEY!  STOP IT!"  Alex yells, running over to them.  "STOP IT!"  He grabs Jacob and pulls him off of Michael just as he has Michael down.  Michael immediately gets to his feet and lunges at Jacob, but Alex stops him.  "Alright, that's enough!"  Alex says.

"Let me go!"  Michael yells.

"That's ENOUGH, I SAID!"  Alex angrily yells.  "What the hell's the matter with you two anyway?"

"He's just mad because we beat him,"  Jacob says.  "He's such a cry baby."

"Shut up!"

"Okay, stop,"  says Alex.  "Look, I know you're both upset and you're worried about your grandfather."

"MY grandfather, not his!"  Says an angry Michael.  "He's not even a real Ewing.  He's a Gioberti."

"Why, you little......"  Jacob says as he lunges at Michael, tackling him and wrestling him to the ground before Alex can stop him.

"STOP IT!"  Alex says, again pulling the two boys apart.  "Jacob, go in the house for a minute, I wanna talk to Michael."

"What?  Why do I have to go?  I didn't do anything.  HE started it!"

"Jacob, just go in the house and let me talk to Michael!"  Alex says.

Jacob sighs, then turns and angrily marches toward  the house.

After he's gone, Alex turns to Michael.  "Okay, what's going on with you?"

"Nothing."

"Then why are you acting like this?  Is it because you're worried about Uncle Bobby?"

"Of course I'm worried about my Grandpa,"  Michael says.

"I know.  We all are.  Jacob's worried about him, Michael.  There was no reason for you to start that fight with him or say what you did to him."

"Just leave me alone, Alex,"  Michael says, then starts to walk away.

"Michael, come back here, I'm not finished."

"I don't have to do what you say!"  Michael snaps and keeps walking.

Angered by his cousin's rebellion, Alex goes after him.  "Wait a minute,"  he says, grabbing Michael by the arm.

"Let go of me!"

"No, not until you tell me what's going on with you.  You've been acting like a real brat for a while now, even before your Grandpa got sick, so I know that's not the reason.  Now tell me why you're acting like this.  Did something happen between you and Jacob?"

Michael lowers his head and looks away, remaining silent.

"Michael, come on.  We're cousins, you can tell me anything."

"You'll just laugh at me,"  Michael says.

"No, I won't.  Michael, what's bothering you?"

"Promise you won't say anything to anybody?"

"I won't say anything.  Just tell me what's wrong."

Michael looks up at his cousin and sighs.  "Just look at me, Alex."

"Okay, I'm looking.  What am I suppose to see?"

"Look how small I am.  Listen to how I talk.  I still sound like a little kid."

"Michael you ARE  a kid,"  Alex says.

"But look at Jacob.  At the beginning of summer, we were the same height, but look how much taller he is than me now.  And his voice has changed and gotten deeper while I still sound like I'm 10."

Alex puts his hand on Michael's shoulder.  "So that's what's bothering you?  You're jealous because Jacob has started puberty, and you haven't?"

"Wouldn't you be?"  Michael asks.  "We're the same age, but he's growing and I'm not.  His voice has changed and mine hasn't.  There must be somethin' wrong with me."

"Michael, people grow at different rates.  And people start puberty at different ages.  Some people start it as early as 11 or 12, and other people don't start puberty until as late as 15 or 16.  Because yours hasn't started yet doesn't mean there's something wrong with you.  It'll happen.  You just have to be patient.  But getting mad at Jacob for something he has no control over........that's kinda dumb."

"I guess,"  Michael says, nodding his head.  "Alex, I'm gonna go ride my bike.  Just wanna be by myself for a while."

"Okay, but don't go too far.  Stay close to the house. I don't wanna have to come looking for you later."

"I will."  Michael walks over to the house and grabs his bicycle.  As Alex watches, Michael rides away on his bike.

Westar Oil....

Shawn is dictating a letter to his secretary in his office at Westar that afternoon:  "And, as a result of this initiative,"  he says, "Westar will be expanding our bases of operation to include several new offshore wells in the first six months of 2020, as well as beginning a drive to purchase or acquire oil and gas rich lands in several counties across southeast Texas, thus increasing our revenue by as much as 49% over the next two years.  We greatly appreciate your cooperation in this effort.  Sincerely, Shawn Smith, Chief Executive Officer."

"Got it,"  the young secretary says.

"Good. Have that typed up and print out a copy for each department.  And schedule a meeting for all department heads here in my office for 11 A.M. tomorrow.  I wanna get going on this as soon as possible."

The young woman smiles at him.  "Right away, Mr. Smith.  Will there be anything else?"

Shawn looks at her.  "Not right now, but........maybe later."

"Why don't you come by my place after work?"

"That sounds like a definite plan to me,"  Shawn says.  "I'll just tell Michelle that I'm working late again."

"Looking forward to it, Mr. Smith,"  the secretary says just as she and Shawn hear a commotion in the outer office.

"No, You can NOT go in there!"  A man's voice says from outside Shawn's door.

"You wanna just watch me?"  John Ross says as he bursts into Shawn's office, a young man in his mid-20s following him.

"Mr. Smith, I'm sorry,"  the young man says.  "He barged right past me.  You want me to throw him out?"

"I wouldn't suggest you try that, son,"  John Ross says.  "Not if you wanna go home with all your teeth tonight."

"Mr. Smith, should I call security?"

"No, Randy, that's fine,"  Shawn says, standing to his feet.  "I'd like to hear what Mr. Ewing has to say.  You and Carol excuse us, please."

Randy nods, then he and Shawn's secretary, Carol, quickly leave the office, closing the door on the way out.

Shawn looks at his unexpected visitor and smiles.  "John Ross.  What a surprise.  Care for a drink?"  He asks, walking to his bar.  "Bourbon, right?"

"I don't want a drink or anything else from you, you little son of a bitch,"  John Ross says.

"You seem angry.  What the hell do you want, anyway?"

John Ross walks over to him.  "I wanna beat the hell out of you right now, but I'm tryin' to restrain myself."

"What the hell are you talking about?"  Shawn asks.

John Ross grabs him by the arm and forcefully turns him around to face him.  "I'm talkin' about my Uncle Bobby and what you did to him."

"What I did to him?  I haven't done anything to Bobby.  Unless of course you're talking about the other day when I told him I was going to do what my grandfather was never able to do and destroy Ewing Oil once and for all.  He didn't seem to take too kindly to that."

"You little piece of scum!"  John Ross says as he slaps Shawn hard enough across the face to send him falling to the floor.

Shawn looks up at him, touching the side of his stinging face.  "Oh, you're gonna be real sorry you did that, John Ross."

"The only one around here who's gonna be sorry is YOU,"  John Ross says.  "My Uncle Bobby is in the hospital right now havin' open heart surgery because of you."

"Because of me?"  Shawn asks, getting to his feet.  "Bobby.......he had a heart attack?"

"Yes, after runnin' into you yesterday.  And I promise you......if Uncle Bobby dies.......I'll kill you with my bare hands."

"Look, I'm sorry about Bobby, but you can't blame me for that,"  Shawn says, a look of fear on his face.  "He shouldn't have let himself get so worked up, a man his age."

"You wanna know why Uncle Bobby got so worked up?  It's because you threatened Ewing Oil, and that's the same as threatening a member of the Ewing fam'ly.  I don't expect you to understand that because a selfish little punk like you doesn't give a damn about anybody but yourself.  But you see, Ewing Oil was originally started by my grandfather way back in 1930.  That company's been through a lot over the years and it's been out of Ewing hands more than once.  But Ewing Oil has always.........ALWAYS........found its way back to my fam'ly, and after all that, do you really think we're gonna let some dumb ass juvenile delinquent threaten it?  If you believe that for one second then you got a rude awakening comin' your way.  Because we will NEVER let the likes of you hurt our company or our family, and you can just take that message right on back to your grandfather, Jeremy Wendell, because I know he's the one pullin' your strings.  You're not smart enough, not clever enough, and you don't have the financial might to have pulled off everything you've pulled off in the last several months.  And when I do find out where Jeremy Wendell is hidin' out......and trust me, I WILL.......I'm gonna bring that old man down so hard and you down with him.  And anyobody else that stands in my way."

"Get the hell out of my office, Ewing,"  Shawn says.

John Ross grabs him by the shirt collar.  "Remember what I said.......anything happens to my Uncle because of you.......I'll take you out myself."  He angrily glares at Shawn or a few seconds, then releases him from his grip.  As John Ross is about to leave the office, Brad walks in.  The two men stop and look at each other.

"What the hell are you doing here?"  Brad asks.

"I came to issue a warning to your boss,"  John Ross replies.  "Ask him to fill you in, because what I said applies to you, too,"  he says, then walks out of the office.

Brad looks at Shawn, who is again rubbing his face which is still stinging from John Ross's slap.  "What was that all about?  Are you okay?"

"Oh, I'm fine,"  Shawn replies.  "But John Ross Ewing just made a big mistake.  Until now, I've only been swiping a few deals from under Ewing Oil, but no more.  From here on, it's no holds barred, all out fighting dirty.  The Ewings want a war and John Ross just declared it.  We'll give 'em a war to end ALL wars."

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital....a short time later....

Krystina steps off the elevator just down the hall from the waiting room outside of surgery.  Walking into the room, she finds Ann, Christopher, Courtney, Lucas, Heather, Sue Ellen, Catlin, Ray, Donna, and Lucy still waiting.  "Any news yet?"  Krystina asks.

"No, nothing yet,"  Christopher replies.

"How are the kids?"  Heather asks.

"The kids are fine.  I left the boys playing basketball.  Hey, where's John Ross?"

"He left a  little while ago,"  Christopher replies.  "Said he had something to take care and he'd be back soon."

Almost as if on cue, the elevator down the hall opens and John Ross steps out into the hallway and goes into the waiting room.

"Well, speak of the devil,"  Lucas says.

"I miss anything?"  John Ross asks.

"No, nothing,"  Ann replies.

Krystina walks up to her husband.  "Where'd you go?"

"Just had to take care of somethin'.  I'll tell you later."

Sue Ellen stands from her seat and walks over to her son.  "John Ross, I'd like to talk to you,"  she says.  "I'd like to talk about his rift between us."

"You mean the rift YOU put between us?"  John Ross asks, rather sharply.

"John Ross, please.  We really need to work this out.  I hate this........this huge rift in our relationship."

"Not now," John Ross angrily says.  "Can't you see I got other things on my mine besides you tryin' to ease your conscience?"  He turns and walks away from his mother, leaving Sue Ellen fighting back her tears.

Standing nearby, Christopher, having overheard this exchange between his aunt and his cousin, walks over to where John Ross has taken a seat alone away from the rest of the family.  Christopher takes a seat beside him.  "Y'know, John Ross, I couldn't help but hear what you said to your Mom.  Look, I understand you're upset with Sue Ellen right, but, man, you really need to at least talk things out with her."

"Christopher, you don't understand.  I mean no offense, cousin, but you need to stay out of this.  This doesn't concern you."

"John Ross, I know it's none of my business, and I can't tell you what to do,"  Christopher says.  "But I am gonna give you a piece of advice.  No matter how upset you are with her, Sue Ellen is still your mother.  You may see things differently, but Sue Ellen did what she did out of love for you."

"Christopher, I'm sick and tired of hearin' that.  First from her, now from you."

"Just listen to me,"  Christopher says.  "Now maybe what Sue Ellen did was misguided, but I do know that she has always had your best interest at heart.  And I think deep down inside you know that, too.  John Ross, my father is in there right now having triple bypass surgery.  We could've lost him, and if there's one thing this has taught me is to never take anyone for granted.  I've always assumed that my Dad was always gonna be there.  But John Ross, our parents aren't always gonna be around.  They're gettin' older, and one day, they're gonna be gone.  The point I'm tryin' to make is.........if you let this situation go on between you and Sue Ellen, one day when she's gone, you're gonna look back, and you're gonna regret the time you wasted being angry with her over something that, in the grand scheme of things, doesn't matter.  Your mother has always been there for you, your whole life.  Yes, she's made some mistakes, but look at all she's done for you.  Don't waste this precious time, John Ross.  Don't end up regretting that you didn't make up with Sue Ellen when you had the chance.  Just think about it."  Christopher gets up and walks away, leaving John Ross deep in thought over what he said.

Meanwhile, Ann is standing at the window looking out over the hospital parking lot when Donna walks over to her. "I brought you another cup of coffee,"  Donna says.  "I thought you could use it."

"You're right, I could.  Thank you,"  Ann says.

"How're you holding up?"

Ann sighs.  "As best I can, I suppose.  You know what I keep thinkin' about?"

"No, what?"  Donna asks.

"I keep thinkin' about all the times I hurt Bobby.  All the times I lied to him, kept secrets from him.  You'd think that now I would be thinkin' about the good times we had and not the bad times.  And we've had so many good times over the years.  But one memory sticks in my mind the most, and that's how angry he was with me after I told him about Emma.  He was angry that I had kept this secret from him, and for a while he bottled up his anger inside.  But then one night.......it was actually the night after J.R.'s memorial service........all that anger came roarin to the surface.  I guess it was his anger at me, combined with the anger and grief he was feelin' about J.R. bein' gone.  But it was ugly.....

"Bobby forgave you for that,"  Donna says.

In tears, Ann nods.  "Yes he did.  He forgave me for that, and for quite a few things since then, including keepin' Logan's paternity a secret from him."

Donna reaches out and touches her sister-in-law's arm.  "Bobby loves you, Ann.  Y'know, you may be married to him, but I've known Bobby a whole lot longer than you have, and if there's one thing I can tell you it's that Bobby Ewing is a fighter.  Katherine Wentworth wasn't able to get him.  None of the adversity he's faced in his life has been able to stop him.  You don't think Bobby Ewing's gonna let a little thing like a heart attack slow him down, do you?"

Ann let's out a slight laugh.  "No, I suppose not.  Everyone told me that Jock had a heart attack and this same operation, and he came out just fine."

"Jock came out better than fine,"  Donna says.  "Jock's heart attack and bypass operation happened before I ever met him.  Before I ever even met Ray, but I can tell you that the Jock Ewing I knew........you'd never be able to tell that he'd ever had anything wrong with him, much less a heart problem.  Ann, Bobby's gonna be fine.  You just keep telling yourself that, and believing it."

Ann looks at Donna and takes her by the hand, smiling at her.  Before she is able to say anything else, Mitch and Dr. Edwards walk into the room.  Ann immediately rushes over to meet the two doctors at the door of the waiting room.  The rest of the assembled family members follow her and gather around.  "How is he?"  Ann asks.

"Bobby came through the surgery very well,"  Dr. Edwards replies.  "He's in recovery now.''

"Then, the surgery was a success?"  Lucas asks.

''Yes.  Of course there is a risk of infection, but I don't anticipate any complications.''

''When can I see him?''  Ann asks.

''Soon,'' Dr. Edwards says.  ''He's in recovery now.  Shortly he'll be moved to ICU, where he'll stay for at least 48 hours, until we're sure no complications will arise.  After that, we'll move him to a private room.  After leaving ICU, we'll keep Bobby in the hospital for 5 to 7 days before sending him home.''

''After my father is released from the hospital, will he be able to go back to living a normal life like before?" Christopher asks.

''Bobby will need at least 4 to 6 weeks recovery time before he can even start to think about resuming his normal activities.  After  that, he will be able to live a full and normal life, but he WILL have to make some changes.''

"What sort of changes?"  Ann asks.

"His diet, for one.  No more greasy, fried, or fatty foods.  Bobby will also have to limit his soda intake.  He'll also have to limit the stress in his life.  Now I realize in the day and time we live in, life is stressful, but, Bobby's gonna have to realize that stress is one of the worst things in the world when it comes to heart health because of the effects it has on the blood pressure.  Of course we'll discuss all this with Bobby before he leaves the hospital.  Now, I'm going to go check on my patient, but Mrs. Ewing, I'll let you know as soon as you can see him.''

''Thank you, Dr. Edwards,''  Ann says as the doctor leaves the room.

''Thank God,''  Ann says,  breathing a sigh of relief.  ''Bobby's going to be alright.''  She and Christopher embrace.

Half an hour later....

After Bobby is moved into Intensive Care, Ann makes her way down a hallway to his room.  Pausing in the doorway, Ann looks at Bobby laying in bed, hooked upto a respirator and other machines.  After a moment, she

walks over to his bedside and looks down at him.  ''Bobby,'' she says in tears.  ''Oh my sweetheart.  You had me nearly scared to death.  Don't you ever do that to me again.''  She takes a seat at Bobby's beside and gently touches his hand.  ''I love you so much, Bobby James Ewing, and I honestly don't know what I would do without you.  I know we've had our fair share of problems over the years, problems that were mostly my fault.  I've been doin' a lot of thinkin' while you were in surgery.  Thinkin' about the pain I caused you with the secrets I've kept.  And I promise you, Bobby, from now on, no more secrets, and no more lies.  I know I've made this promise to to you before, but this time......this time I will keep that promise.  You are my whole world, Bobby, and I never want to face life without you."  Ann leans down and lovingly kisses Bobby's forehead.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital....9 days later....

On a gray, cloudy November morning, 9 days after his bypass surgery, Bobby is leaving the hospital.  A nurse wheels him out of the hospital's front entrance in a wheelchair, Ann, Christopher, and Lucas at his side.  As Bobby is wheeled out of the hospital, he takes in a deep breath.

"How's it feel to be out of that hospital and in the fresh air, Dad?"  Christopher asks.

"Feels great, son,"  Bobby replies with a smile.  "I can't wait until we drive through the front gate at Southfork."

"It'll be wonderful to have you home, but remember what the doctor said,"  Ann tells him.  "You're to take it easy for a while."

"Yes, I remember,"  Bobby says with a sigh.  Just then, Bobby looks up and sees, standing beside his car waiting for him is Courtney, Heather, Michael, Jacob, John Ross, and Sue Ellen.  "Hey, now, what's all this?"  He asks.

"We all wanted to be here to greet you when you came out of the hospital,"  Courtney says.

"Yeah, we missed you, Grandpa,"  says Michael.

Bobby smiles.  "Well, I have missed all of you, too."

"Bobby, it's so good to see you looking so well,"  Sue Ellen says, greeting him with a kiss.

"Thank you, Sue Ellen, and I really appreciated the visits, and the flowers you and Catlin sent."

"Oh, you're very welcome."

"Uncle Bobby,"  John Ross says, extending his hand to his uncle.  "Good to see you."

"John Ross,"  Bobby says, shaking his nephew's hand.  "Good to see you, too."

"Krystina wanted to be here, but Ellie was kinda sick with a stomach ache this mornin', so she thought it best to stay home with her,"  John Ross.

"That's fine, I'll see her at the ranch."

Bobby gets out of his wheelchair at his car as Ann opens the passenger door for him.  "Nurse, thank you for all you've done, and my thanks to the rest of your staff,"  he says.

"You're welcome, Mr. Ewing, and you take care,"  the nurse replies.  "Looks like you have a very loving and supportive family."

Bobby looks at his family, then at the nurse and smiles.  "I sure do,"  he says.  He looks back at the hospital and seeing several nurses standing at the front entrance, he waves to them, then gets into the car.

"Can we ride home with you and Ann, Grandpa?"  Jacob asks.

"Sure you can, get on in,"  Bobby says.

The two boys get into the backseat and Ann gets into the driver's seat of the car.  She and Bobby look at each other.  "Let's get you home,"  Ann says, then kisses him.

"And not a minute too soon,"  Bobby says.

Ann starts the car, and she, Bobby, and the boys drive away from the hospital.

Southfork....one week later....Thanksgiving Day....

One week later, Southfork is filled with people as the Ewings gather for Thanksgiving.  Seated around the dinner table are Bobby, Christopher, Lucas, Heather, John Ross, Krystina, Alex, Lucy, Michael, Jacob, Little John, and baby Ellie.  Various conversations are going on around the table.  Ann and Courtney enter the dining room, Ann carrying a platter with a beautiful, juicy turkey, and Courtney carrying a platter of ham.  The women place the two platters in the center of the dining table, then take their seats at the table.

"What a beautiful turkey,"  Lucas says.

"Everything looks wonderful,"  says Bobby as he stands.  "Before we dig into this feast, I'd like to say a few words."

"Alright, Dad, but make it quick, will you?  We're all pretty hungry here,"  Christopher jokes.

"Okay, okay, I'll make it fast,"  Bobby says.  "It's been quite a year for the Ewings.  We've lived through some good times, and some bad times, and we have so much to be thankful for, including the fact that Jacob and I are both here, alive and well, after undergoing heart surgery this  year.  I'm so thankful for this family. For the love we have for each other, and, even though we Ewings may not always see eye to eye, and we may fight among ourselves, but in the end, we ARE a family.  A strong family,  one that always comes together in times of adversity.  So, as we sit down to enjoy this marvelous feast, let's remember those who aren't here with us today for whatever reason, and remember those who are less fortunate.  And now, with that said, let's carve this bird so we can dig in."

"Here, here,"  Christopher says.

The family resumes conversation, the focus of which is now on the delicious looking feast before them as Bobby grabs a knife and fork and begins to carve the turkey.

Amid the chatter at the table, as Bobby's words echo through his mind, John Ross begins to think about what Christopher had said to him at the hospital a week earlier, on the day of Bobby's surgery, about repairing his relationship with Sue Ellen before it's too late.  John Ross looks around the table at his family, especially at his wife, his sons, and his little daughter, and Christophers words resonate with him even more.

Sue Ellen and Catlin's home....later....

Later that afternoon, at Sue Ellen and Catlin's home, Sue Ellen, Catlin, C.J., and Eric are finishing their Thanksgiving dinner.  "Sue Ellen, that dinner was absolutely amazing,"  C.J. says.

"I agree, it definitely was,"  says Eric.

"My wife, not only is she beautiful, but she's a fabulous cook, as well,"  Catlin says.

Sue Ellen smiles.  "Well, thank you all very much.  Is everyone ready for desert?  I have pumpkin pie and pecan pie."

"I would LOVE  piece of that pumpkin,"  says C.J.

"Pecan for me,"  Eric says.

"Coming right up,"  Sue Ellen says, getting up from the table.  As she is about to head into the kitchen, the doorbell rings.  "Now who can that be?"

"I dunno, I'm not expecting anyone,"  says Catlin.

"I'll see who it is."  Sue Ellen makes her way from the dining room and into the foyer.  She opens the front door

and much to her surprise, she finds John Ross on her porch.  "John Ross,"  she says.

"Hello, Mama,'' he says.  ''Happy Thanksgiving."

Sue Ellen smiles as she holds back tears of happiness at seeing her son.  "Oh, John Ross, Happy Thanksgiving,"  she says.

John Ross walks into the house and kisses his mother on the cheek.  Sue Ellen looks at him, a smile on her face and tears in her eyes, and mother and son share an embrace....

EXCELLENT! Had me on the edge of my seat. Shawn Smith really is a little shit! I hope he loses Westar and ends up sleeping under a f-ing bridge, which if the Ewings have anything to say about it, he will! Shawn, you just made the biggest mistake you ever could have made, you crossed the Ewings. I think Ricky is trying to get to the Ewings through Michael. I'm glad Sue Ellen and John Ross made up. Now more than ever, Christopher and John Ross need to put their differences and start working together. First order of business? Get out of that damn Colbyco deal and send Adam and Brad's asses to prison. Smartest thing the Ewings can do right now is to have Krystina come into the office and take over for Bobby.

Thank you so much for starting and ending Bobby’s heart attack, surgery and going home all in the same episode. I love that I didn’t have to wait to find out how everything turned out!! Also, thank you for bringing mother & son back together as mother & son.

    Great Job, again.

Thank you for you dedication and hard work!!

@Teri......I did this episode as an homage to the 1978 episode "Bypass." Plus the repercussions of Bobby's heart attack will be felt for the rest of this season.

Oh, war between the Ewings and Westar! Shawn will not know what hit him, the little snake, now that John Ross is on the war path. And Brad's right in the middle of it. That will spell grief for Pamela and Afton and all that after they're all still recovering from Cliff's death.
I'm glad Bobby's recovered. He's still the glue that keeps the family together. Now that Bobby will have to take a step back from company business, will John Ross even have more freedom to act on his own business plans?

20 years seems like a rather small sentence for katherine. Glad that bobby came out of everything alright. Now is the perfect time to spring the truth of shawn's father on him to throw him off his game, and hopefully they can find wendell soon.

    Absolutely great writing

  • #15

    Derek Mathews (Wednesday, 18 December 2019 14:37)

You are absolutely right Trevor! I thought a 20 year sentence for someone like Katherine Wentworth was WAY too light! This woman committed a double murder, and an attempted murder. That’s two lifetime sentences, and everything. And yes, this is the perfect time for John Ross to spring the truth on Shawn Smith so he can get his game thrown off a little bit. They will probably find Wendell by the season finale, but that’s a long way away. Remember, Bobby always comes through for the family.

  • #16

    Derek Mathews (Wednesday, 18 December 2019 14:58)

Verena, yeah the long-time rivalry between Westar and Ewing Oil is about to heat up for now! Brad and Shawn’s days are as good as numbered and everything. John Ross is really going to slow down Shawn Smith when he reveals who his real father is. And yeah with Brad in the middle of all of this, that’s bad news for the Barnes family. I’m glad that Bobby recovered too. He has proven that he is the glue that holds the Ewing family together, no doubt about it. But John Ross won’t be doing his own business plans because Sue Ellen and Christopher will be there at Ewing Oil with them. Alex will be there as well as Cole and Sly. Plus I think is the perfect time to bring Krystina back to work so she can fill in for Bobby until he gets back on his feet. She needs to be more than a housewife and a stepmother. She’s perfect, she’s tough, smart, pretty, ruthless, creative, sharp, and honest. Plus she’s experienced. She will do just fine. She needs to have a career.

  • #17

    Derek Mathews (Wednesday, 18 December 2019 15:38)

Yes, Parker Bena, you said a mouthful, but you are right. I think Krystina filling in for Bobby would be perfect considering she used to run her fathers oil company Denver-Carrington. She needs to be more than a housewife and stepmother. She needs to have a career too. Anyway, yes John Ross does need to get out of that ColbyCo deal and everything. Krystina needs to help him and yes send Brad and Adam to prison for good. Shawn Smith is in way over his head! He’s a young guy who is dealing a family who is way experienced than him in the cutthroat oil business. He’s playing an adult game, and he’s not even 21 yet. He’s 19 or 20 or so. Rickey needs to not use Micheal. He needs to leave him alone. That kid hasn’t done anything to you. Your beef is with Christopher Ewing, not anybody else. So if I were you I’d think before you do something stupid.

    Derek Mathews (Wednesday, 18 December 2019 15:43)

I’m just glad that Sue Ellen and John Ross made up. It is Thanksgiving, the season where everybody is thankful and forgives and everything. Now they have to come together to find out who is helping Westar steal oil
deals and everything. I hope it’s not Cole cause I will be very dissapointed because Alex and Cole seem to really get along. They will find out. But it’s somebody in the company though.

    Derek Mathews (Wednesday, 18 December 2019 15:59)

I liked the clips in this episode about just how much effect Bobby has had on the people closest to him at the end of the day. Pam, Jenna, Ann, Bobby, Lucy, and Christopher. It shows just how much he really cares for them. Even when he lectures them or gives them advice. They all have a special relationship with Bobby and they all have loved him at some point and still do.

  • #20

    Derek Mathews (Wednesday, 18 December 2019 16:16)

I loved the moment between Lucas and Christopher. I wish it had worked out differently for him and they could have became brothers for their whole life’s instead of the last four seasons or so. But they are still brothers at the end of the day, and everything. They are both adopted. But glad that everything worked out for them.

  • #21

    Derek Mathews (Wednesday, 18 December 2019 16:29)

I like what Christopher told John Ross concerning parents and how they are going to get older and then they are going to die and you don’t want that to have no regrets. Plus it was Thanksgiving and that’s the power of giving. But I’m glad that John Ross was able to forgive his mother and they were able to come together.

  • #22

    Derek Mathews (Wednesday, 18 December 2019 16:48)

I like what John Ross did when he confronted Shawn Smith and slapped the hell out of him. And told him about the history of Ewing Oil and the fact that his tough as nails grandfather Jock Ewing founded the company in 1930. Jock Ewing was a badass! He ruled his house with an iron fist and he demanded respect. And wealth saved Southfork, but the company has always been apart of the family. Even when it hasn’t it has always come back to the family, it’s always been there. Ewing Oil overall is just a huge part of the Ewing family and their rivalry with Westar is another part of Ewing Oil.

    Derek Mathews (Wednesday, 18 December 2019 17:04)

Having Cass Winthrop in Dallas would be very interesting at the end of the day. He could use his powers for good instead of for evil. He might as well forget about getting an appeal. He’s not getting that appeal from the Criminal Justice system or the state of Dallas. He’s very shrewd like and very JR like and everything. But him in Dallas working with Jay Smithfield would be something. Again using his talents for good instead of evil.

  • #24

    Derek Mathews (Wednesday, 18 December 2019 17:19)

Taking down Katherine Wentworth was perhaps Bobbys greatest accomplishment at the end of the day. He took down someone that has done nothing but cause his family so much pain. One thing for sure, She hates Pam, Ann, and Jenna, it any other woman that gets close to him. But I’m glad that the Ewing family doesn’t have to look over their heads anymore and they can actually sleep.

  • #25

    Derek Mathews (Wednesday, 18 December 2019 17:40)

I hope Katherine doesn’t escape and try and get revenge because she will be as good as dead if she tries. Just like her son at the end of the day. She might as well sit in her jail cell because that’s where she is going to stay for the next 20 years.

I wonder how Bobby will feel about Cass staying in Dallas. Bobby might understand him taking Katherine's case, but he still might be angry about how Cass ripped Ann apart on the stand.

  • #28

    Derek Mathews (Sunday, 22 December 2019 20:20)

I agree Rose. I don’t think Bobby will care if Cass Winthrop stays in Dallas but he’s going to rip him a new one for that brutal cross-examination that he gave Ann. I actually felt bad for Ann. He embarrassed her at the end of the guy.
